Once David became king of a united Israel, he wanted to know if any male members of Saul’s family had survived God’s wrath. A servant of Saul, by the name of Ziba, told him that Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth was still alive. Mephibosheth was only five years old when Saul and Jonathan died. When his nurse heard of their tragic deaths, she grabbed him and fled. While fleeing she dropped him, leaving Mephibosheth crippled for life.
By the time David found him, Mephibosheth was a man who had a son named Micah. II Samuel 9:6 records that when he appeared before David, Mephibosheth bowed to him and said, "Behold thy servant!"
David told him in verse 7, "...Fear not for I will surely shew kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul; and the land of Saul thy father; and thou shall eat bread at my table continually."
By allowing him to eat at the king’s table, David recognized him his as a son. David ordered Ziba to be caretaker of Saul’s property. Since Mephibosheth was crippled, he would not be able to work the land. After he received all these blessing from David, Mephibosheth remained humble. In II Samuel 9:8 he referred to himself as a dead dog.
Years later, David’s son Absalom led a revolt, and invaded Jerusalem. As David was fleeing from Jerusalem, Ziba came to his aide. He provided the king with two donkeys that were saddled with supplies. When the King asked about Mephibosheth, Ziba told him that he was in Jerusalem. He also stated that Mephibosheth had hopes of regaining his father’s thorn. David then gave all Mephibosheth’s property to Ziba.
After Absalom’s downfall, David returned to his throne in Jerusalem. When Mephibosheth greeted him, David noticed that he was very dirty, barefooted, and unshaven. He told the king that Ziba had falsely accused him of being a traitor. David ordered that he split the land with Ziba. Mephibosheth said that Ziba could have everything. The scriptures don’t revel his innocence or guilt. But when Mephibosheth turned down all his worldly goods, it showed that he was man much like his father Jonathan.
When Israel was plagued by famine, the Gibeonites came to David and demanded revenge on the house of Saul. During the days of Joshua, the Gibeonites had been spared from the destruction. Instead they were put into slavery. Saul had put many of them to death, which broke the covenant Joshua had made with them. Seven men from Saul’s lineage were hanged, Mephibosheth’s life was spared. David never broke his covenant with Jonathan.
If it had not been for Mephibosheth, the house of Saul would have died out. I Chronicles 8 records the genealogy of Saul. Mephibosheth’s name is changed to Malchisua. The last man mention in passage was Ulam. He had 150 sons and grandsons who were skilled archers. The house of Saul belonged to the tribe of Benjamin. A tribe that was known for its warriors.
Jonathan was killed as a results of Saul’s disobedience. But since he had remained faithful to God, the Lord allowed his lineage to live on.

Jonathan the Friend
John 15:13 (KJV) states, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend." Christ spoke these words to his disciples before he was arrested. Centuries before Jesus made this statement, a friendship of this type had taken place. It is the story of Jonathan and David.
Jonathan became friends with David shortly after he slew Goliath. I Samuel 18:3 records that "Jonathan loved him as his own soul. King Saul, Jonathan’s father, befriended David at first. He even allowed him to eat at the king’s table. But Saul’s feeling changed when he heard a woman sing, "Saul has killed his thousands. David his tens of thousands." I Samuel 18:8.
Saul’s hatred grew to the point that he ordered his men to kill David. But Jonathan pleaded with his father, and things seemed fine once again. Then one day as David was playing his harp in the throne room, Saul attempted to kill him with a javelin. This time David fled to a place called Naioth in Ramah where he meet with Jonathan. The two promised each other that they would always be friends. They also devised a plan to help David escape the wrath of Saul. A time was set where David was to hide in a certain field. Jonathon would shoot three arrows. He would instruct the boy with him how he was to collect the arrows. These instructions would be a coded message for David .
Later that day when David did not show up at the king’s table to eat, Saul did not think much about it. But when he was absent the second day, the king grew suspicious. Jonathan told his father that David had to go to Bethlehem for a family sacrifice. Saul reminded his son that if David lived he would become King of Israel. However he was unable to turn Jonathan against David. The anger of Saul grew that he even attempted to kill his own son with a javelin.
Three days later, Jonathan went to the designated field and shot the three arrows. I Samuel 20:38, "And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make sped, haste, stay not. And Jonathan’s lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master." Unknown the boy, David was hiding nearby. Jonathan gave the boy his bow and arrows, and told him to go back to the city. When the boy had left, David came out of hiding. Verse 41 states that David bowed to Jonathan three times. Afterwards they kissed and wept.
David stayed on the run for many years, and God protected him. The Bible records the last meeting the two friends had. I Samuel 23:17 show us that Jonathan was a very unselfish man. ".... and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee." Jonathan realized that he would never become king. He understood that God has chosen David. In verse 18 the two renew their friendship for the last time.
It’s amazing that Saul’s son had a different outlook in life. Before Saul was king he was a godly man. Most likely he taught his son the ways of God. Jonathan was probably a young man when his father was made king. So when Saul turned from God, Jonathan was mature enough to realize his father was doing wrong.
The men in Saul’s family, expect for one, were murdered as the years went by. Mesphiboseth, Jonathan’s son, was spared from God’s wrath. An article about him is coming soon.

Yes Drew Pritt is a Strange Bird
I had planned this week to continue my series on Prince Jonathan, but this debate with Drew Pritt needs to be resolved. Returning to my sources I discovered that Mr.Pritt was not in the Crossett Rodeo Parade. A source called me today and said that Pritt had marched down the streets of Warren saying he was gay. This was my mistake concerning the Rodeo Parade. For this I will apologize. But all the other information that I wrote was based on comments written by the bloggers of the Arkansas Times Online.
Today my source, from Warren, told me that Drew Pritt was not really gay. He is just making these statements to draw attention to himself. Personally I don't think he will even be able to raise the filing fee to run in the Democrat Primary.
Also Mr. Pritt called me a heretic and a liar. Evidentially he does not know the origin of this word. In the Dark Ages anyone who opposed the Roman Church was branded with this name. In my article about Drew Pritt, nothing was said about the Catholic Church. Look at all my articles, and you will see that I have never condemned the Catholic Church. So calling me a heretic is a false accusation.
As far as me being a liar, all my research was done by scanning the name Drew Pritt. If any of this comments were false, it was based on misinformation. I did make up any lies on Drew Pritt. Lying and being misinformed is completely two different things.
I challenge all my readers to do a Google or Yahoo search on Drew Pritt. You will discover that earlier this year he announced he was running for congress in Wisconsin, but now he has switched to running for Lt. Governor in Arkansas. Yes Drew Pritt is a Strange Bird.
At the radio station, KWLT in Crossett, I am known as Rude Paul. If you go crossettradio.com, and then click the KWLT icon, you will find that Rude Paul has made a challenge to any politican or any liberal journalist to a three minute three round boxing match. There is a list of people who you can cast your vote for. I emailed Drew Paul and asked if would like to challenege me to a boxing match. Since Pritt is the underdog, I thought he may want the free publicity. Plus he could take a few swings at me. Drew Pritt declined to the challenge, and once again called me a heretic and a liar.
I make this predication, if Drew Pritt does file to run in the Democratic Primary, he will recieve 1% of the vote. If this prediction is not correct, I will admit to being wrong.

Blogs have been known to comment on a variety of issues, ranging from the latest "Here is what I think" type of blog to the latest big movie release to the newest computer on the market. Your blog is very topic specific and should do very well. Keep up the good work.
Also, you might want to look at two very important, topic-specific blogs for some ideas. MediaNews (www.poynter.org/medianews) and (www.iwantmedia.com). First started in 1999 as independent sites. Romenesko's site is particularly interesting for being a must read for media insiders, often creating a hot debate throughout the journalism community, because of its unique combining of news and rumors.

Jonathan the Prince
Jonathan rose to national fame when he and his armor-bearer killed twenty Philistines at a place called Micmash. I Samuel 14:15 states that God put fear into the Philistine army. While this was taking place, Saul and his army were at Gibeah. He was not aware that Jonathan and his armor-bearer had slipped away. But as he saw the Philistines spreading out, the king realized that the two were missing. Saul assembled his troops for an attack, and ordered the high priest to bring the ark of the covenant to the battlefront. Israel was able to chase the Philistines from the region on that day.
I Samuel 14:24 records that the army of Israel was forbidden to eat because Saul had made an oath earlier that day, "Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening that I may be avenged on mine enemies." Verse 27 states that Jonathan , not knowing about the oath, dipped his rod in a honeycomb, and licked it. When he was told about his father’s command, Jonathan rebuked him. He even encouraged the people to enjoy the spoils of war. The people listened to Jonathan and disobeyed Saul’s oath. Not only did they eat of the livestock, the Israelites also tasted the animal’s blood. This was a direct violation of the Mosaic Law. When Saul heard of this, he ordered everyone to bring an ox to the Lord.
Convinced that everything was fine, Saul prepared to continue his attack on the fleeing Philistines. The priest sought advice from God, but the Lord did not respond. The king assembled all his men to cast lots. The lots fell on Saul and Jonathan. After the two were separated from the others, the lots were cast again , and this time they fell on Jonathan. Saul asked his son what sin he had committed. Jonathan told him about tasting the honey. The King then condemned his eldest to death. But the people stood up the king, and Saul was reminded of Jonathan’s heroic deeds. So the life of Jonathan was spared.
I have heard two opinions on Jonathan’s actions in this story. Some say that he sinned, by breaking his father’s command, which put the men of Israel in great danger. Others state that Jonathan was innocent because he was not aware of the oath. Personally I think Jonathan did nothing wrong when he tasted the honey. But when he became aware of his father’s oath, Jonathan should not have publicly denounced his father. In I Samuel 13 records that Saul had turned away from God, and was making foolish decisions. Still he was God’s anointed king of Israel, and Jonathan should not have denounced him.
Even though Jonathan made a mistake, he was loved and respected by the people When the house of Saul turned from God, Jonathan remained faithful. My next blog will be about friendship, and Jonathan will be my example.

A Strange Bird Is Running for Lt. Governor
After Lt. Governor Winn Rockefeller decided not run for Governor, for health reasons, only two major party candidates are left in the race. Democrat Attorney General Mike Bebe, and Republican Asa Hutchinson (former Congressman and Ex-Undersecretary of Homeland Security) will most likely face no opposition in the primaries. Also Jim Lendall has hopes of being the Green Party candidate, and Musician Rod Bryan will attempt to run as an Independent.
The most interesting political battle,in the 2006 Arkansas Election, will be the race for Lt. Governor. Four Democrats and four Republicans have formally declared their candidacy. The last man who announced his candidacy came to my town and was in the Annual Crossett Rodeo Parade. His name is Drew Pritt from Warren, which is less than an hour away from Crossett.
Today I talked to a girl from Warren, who said he was a strange bird and has ran for public office on several occasions . In every race he has been badly defeated. Wanting to find out more about this man,I decided to search the Internet. I learned that he is a frequent blogger on Arkansas Times Online. It appears to me that Pritt has made many enemies on that site. Pritt often condemns people who oppose his political views. He is also Gay, which really makes my stomach turn.
One blogger at Arkansas Times Online, did a goggle search on him, and found quite a bit of information on Drew Pritt. He claims to be a Political Consultant who worked on Wesley Clark's Presidential Campaign in Wisconsin. Pritt has also ran for Congress in Wisconsin and Tennessee. In Bradly County Arkansas he has been a Write-In-Candidate for State Representative and County Judge.
Before entering the Lt. Governor's race, Pritt had endorsed all the other Democratic Candidates. To me he appears to be very odd. When I first heard him on the radio Monday he seemed very intelligent. He talked about saving the rural schools in Arkansas. But when I looked at the comments he has made on Arkansas Times Online, you see that he is a real weirdo.
As most of you know I am endorsing Jim Holt for Lt. Governor. He is a Christian,a Conservative, and believes that the power of Government is subject to the Constitution.
