The Arkansas State Legislatures have passed a measure that would prohibit teen-agers from having an abortion without parental consent. Governor Mike Huckabee has stated he will sign it into law.
The politicans of Arkansas are very proud of themselves, but abortion is still legal. This soon to be law doesn't prohibit abortions, it simply makes it more difficult for a teen-ager to have one. True victory will come when Roe vs Wade is overturned.
The House also passed a bill that would only permit textbooks that support traditional marriage in the classroom. Right now the bill is in the Senate Education Committee where it could go down in defeat. At the moment the committee's vote is 3-3. The seventh member is in the hospital, and his position is unknown.

Political Reform in Iraq But Not America
President Bush and the Republicans have worked hard for political reform in Iraq. Fox News reported that 250 groups had candidates running for public office. It is a shame that no one is really working for political reform in the United States.
In Arkansas, the only ones who have ballot access are Democrats and Republicans. A potential candidate can also file as a Independent. Running as a Write-In is another option. But if you are a Libertarian, Green, or a member of the Constitution Party forget it. Many signatures must be gathered, in a very limited time, for a Third Parties to gain ballot access in Arkansas.
The only State Legislator that supports the freedom of ballot access is State Senator Jim Holt of Bentonville. I am sure he is one of the few. Third Party activist need to lobby legislators for true political reform.

So far there have been some good things coming out the present Legislative Session.
State Senator Steve Faris of Malvern sponsored a bill to update the language in the Election Laws. All but one State Senator approved this bill. Right now it is the House waiting for approval.
Holt and Representative Bob Adams have co-sponsored a bill that would prohibit Gays from adopting children, and becoming foster parents. The bill was passed by the House and will most
likely will approved by the Senate.

Last week former World Boxing Champion (1930-1932) Max Schmeling died at the old age of 99. Schmeling is famous for his loss to Joe Louis, during the time Hitler was proclaiming the Germans as the master race. However Schmeling was not a Nazi. He had a Jewish Manager and a Non-German wife. He even helped in hiding Jewish children from the Nazis. After his loss to Louis, Schmeling was drafted into the German Army and became a paratrooper. When World War II came to end, he returned to boxing and retired in 1948.
After Boxing, Max Schmeling became a successful buisnessman. He owned the Coca-Cola franchise in Germany.

Serving Two Masters
The other day I read an article in the Arkansas Times Online written by Doug Smith. The article delt with State Senator Randy Laverty of Jasper. Along with being a member of the State Senate, Laverty is also a paid lobbyist for two differnt organizations. In my opinon he has sold himself to the highest bidder.
I understand that State Legislators are paid on a part-time basis, and it is necessary for them to have another source of income. Yet being a Lobbyist-Legislator is very unethical. A Legislator is supposed to represent the people of his or her district. A paid Lobbyist works to get Legisators to pass bills that will benefit their employer. The two mix like strawberries and mustard.
Matthew 6:24 states, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one,and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon."
It makes me wonder which master does Randy Laverty love, and which one he hates.

Last week on Monday Night RAW, Wrestling Legend Danny Hodge made a cameo appearence. Even at 72, Danny is still able to jump over the ropes with the greastest of ease. Seeing him meant a lot to me because Hodge is one of my boyhood heroes.
In 1972 I meet Danny Hodge at the Civic Center in Monroe Louisians. He acted as if he knew each fan personally. A great man who was very kind hearted. Looking back I feel honored to have met a man who accomplished so much in his field.
In College, Hodge won both NCAA and AAU titles in Wrestling. At the 1956 Olympic Games, he won a silver medal.
Danny turned to Amatuer Boxing after college, and became a National Golden Gloves Champion. As a pro, Hodge won 8 of his 10 matches before turning to Professional Wrestling.
From 1960 to 1976 Danny Hodge held the NWA Jr. Heavyweight Championship on several occassions. After a fatal car wreck in 1976, the Great DannyHodge retired.
I was so happy that this generation of young wrestling fans had the opportunity to take a glimpse of this great Wrestling Legend
